This "Positive Attitude" Habit will Change Your Life!

Your attitude determines how well you will succeed when faced with a challenge. Would you like to be able to instantly acquire a winners attitude?

Here is a simple positive habit that will change your attitude in seconds! Use this technique for all areas of your life, success, weight loss, motivation, etc. Choose or create a positive mental attitude trigger phrase and repeat it aloud many times each day. A habit trigger is an event, action, or thought that helps to reinforce your positive habits.

Your trigger phrases will help you to maintain a positive mental attitude. Choose or make up a positive phrase, such as:

" I know I can do it."
" I can overcome any obstacle."
" I am reaching my success goals every day."
" I am getting stronger and stronger every day."
" Every day I am getting closer and closer to my goals in life."
" If I believe it I can achieve it."
" Every day, my mental attitude is becoming more positive."
" I am losing weight every day."
" I am getting closer and closer to my goal of a trim and fit body."

Write down your trigger phrase on Post-it notes; place them on the mirror of your car, on your bathroom mirror, carry the note in your pocket. Repeat the phrase many times every day, remember to say it with emotion, believe it with all your heart. Make it a habit to repeat this phrase at least 30 times a day.

Here is a simple way to Turbo Charge this habit for AMAZING results!! Everybody has a smart phone these days. Almost all smart phones have the ability to record audio, if not you can bet there is an App For That!

Download a voice recorder app for your phone. Now record your own voice talking about the goals you are going to reach, talk about them in great detail with enthusiasm in your voice. Play this recording over and over again, while driving, at the gym, before you go to sleep. It's called the power of thinking BIG and trust me, it works. Think BIG successful thoughts, record them and play them back over and over!

Sounds like a lot but if it changes your life, is it worth it? Start your day with it.
The more you repeat your trigger phrases, the greater their effect will be on your attitude. Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, replace it with your positive-attitude trigger phrase. You will now be building success-oriented positive thought patterns.

This habit will help you achieve a positive mental attitude automatically. Remember,attitude is everything! Use this habit to transform your attitude to a level where you will be ready to take on ANY challenge in your life!!

Today in the USA it is a National Holiday, THANKSGIVING.

Steve and I want to THANK YOU for being in our lives and a part of our “ARDYSS TEAM” that is making a difference in the world. We love and appreciate you!

We pause today to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives: the love of family, the sacrifices of our military, and the freedoms of a great nation. We are thankful for the many people we have met as we have built our Ardyss Business.

We are NOT designed to go through life without a true connection with one another, with true love, with simple fulfillment that this connection makes possible.

Please cherish the people in your life, and tell them how much you love and appreciate them. My very best friend and prayer partner of 16 years, passed away this week and she called me 6 times in her last hours of life so we could pray together. I prayed for her until she could no longer hold the phone. Now, I have nothing but the very best memories of my 16 year relationship with Karen. This is a new season for me and I am looking forward to the future.

Give thanks for the ability to send an email because this means that I have a computer or access to one, and I know there are millions of people in the world who do not.

Wow, I can come up with a few more pages of blessings, but I know that you will find a few more blessings of your own. Don’t take them for granted anymore. Gratitude alone brings blessings from God that we are not even aware of.

Hello Leaders!

October is going great for many of you leaders. Your sales are increasing and many of you are making more money than before. Congratulations on your continued success.

In September I sent all of you a copy of an E-book that has changed my focus, my passion and it is changing my business. I am sending you the book again. Are you happy in your present job? Do you love waking up everyday and look forward to going to work? Are you excited to get to your place of employment and know you are going to enjoy everyone you work with and you are going to have a very productive and effortless day? If not, then you are not working from passion that is in your heart.

I have a passion to see women empowered by restoring their body, family lifestyle, and finances. I want to give them the tools they need to accomplish these things. As your Ardyss Leader, I have always made time for those who want to see their business grow.
I have told you many times that all you have to do is call me.

Unfortunately, sometimes we lose our passion for our business because life gets in the way. Well, I totally understand that, because I find myself struggling to stay positive and to stay motivated.
The bible says that David motivated himself. I find myself having to do that very same thing, usually on a daily basis. But, I just go to my bible and my library to see what I need to do today to get going and be able to help you as well. I know exactly what I want to do and I am depending on Inspiration from above to give me the strategies I need to impart on all of you who want to do the same.

The bible says that without a vision my people perish. If you don't know what you want and you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there? Sometimes we want to figure it all out before we get there because we want the security of comfort. Well, I found out that to succeed in life you have to get out of your comfort zone. Let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, I have not been comfortable for as long as I have been with Ardyss, but I have been successful. I have kept moving forward, jumping hurdles, climbing out of ditches, climbing hills and mountains and as a result, all of you now have the business opportunity I fought for.
But it is my great pleasure to give you the opportunity I worked very hard for. I am working in my passion and I want to see you do the same, even if it isn't Ardyss. That's okay. Hurricane Irene

Steve and I have been very concerned for all of you who live in the areas where the hurricane made her path through our east coast. On Thursday I called one of my leaders in the Bahamas and as we were praying for them, the hurricane was passing through at that moment. They got some minor damage but they were okay.

We have been glued to the news to keep praying for all of you on the east coast of the United States and I have been texting those I have cell numbers for. Several of my down-line are without electricity right now and we hope you get it back as soon as possible. I know how inconvenient that can be, since we were without electricity for 14 days after the 2008 hurricane Ike here in Houston.

Please understand that as an Ardyss Distributor you are more than just another I.D. number. I know about all of you that I enrolled personally and most of your down-line. I know you as real honest, sincere hard working people and we care about you. So, please know that you can call me any time even just to say hello, or to discuss an issue, or a problem, or to cry, scream or ask for help with your Ardyss business.

FDA’s New Sneak Attack on Supplements

Dear Ardyss Leader:
I just want to make you aware that the FDA is trying to pass a bill in Congress that could affect the way we do business in Ardyss with our Nutritional products. In this attached link is the article on what Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), is trying to pass this new law that would hurt the nutritional product industry. We can't let them do this.

In the middle of the article is a blue square that says "TO SEND YOUR MESSAGE TO CONGRESS", If you can please send a message to your Congressman in our area. All you have to do is to fill out the form and the Congressional Representatives in your area will appear on the message, your address will trigger the Congressmen in your area. We need to let them know that we are not in agreement with this bill and they need to vote against it. The more of us who write to them, they will listen to us and vote against it.
Remember, we voted these people into their jobs and we can vote them out. The way they know what the voters want from them is to write to them on the issues that affect us.
Well, this one affects us very much. Take action now.

Keep looking forward. Your value is in the future, not in the past. Your accomplishments in the past were wonderful, but nothing compared with what you are about to do in your future. Realize how much you have learned in your survival so far, and realize as well, all those things are a part of you, and helped to make you who you are today.
Keep Looking forward. That's why our eyes are in front. So we must look forward. Physically that's how we are wired. Mentally, we must train ourselves. Spiritually, well, there is only now. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hello.

This morning I was meditating about what makes some of us succeed and some of us fail in our own businesses. I recently studied about the subconscious mind and the role it plays in our success and failures. What is programmed in our subconscious mind from birth is 90% of how we act and react.
It said we only use 10% of our mind which is our analytical mind. So, I set out to find something positive to start reprogramming my subconscious mind and I found this very cute video. I hope this young lady can inspire you to be positive about who we are and what we have.

Starting Over

Every month in business is like starting from scratch. You may have the advantage of previous customers, but have they purchased from you during this month. Why should they? What can you do to find new customers? New Distributors? Challenges are essential for growth. If there were no challenges, you would not grow, try something new, something different. As we have heard, if you continue doing the same actions but expect different results, you have achieved insanity. Far from being insane, there are successful actions you have done in the past. Do you remember what they were? Enthusiasm makes the difference says Norman Vincent Peale, and he is right. When you are excited and active in helping others reach their new success levels, you find yourself moving up as well.

This Season Encourage Yourself

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

During the holidays, people get downright manic/depressive from moment to moment. The pressure to buy bigger and better gifts than the previous year increases proportionately in relation to the proximity to Christmas Day. And with all the talk about recession, unemployment, and tax increases, the stress levels are skyrocketing.

What if you were able to give someone their own income-producing business? This is one way to look at your Ardyss Business. It is a gift, an opportunity to change your financial condition, your health, and your self-esteem. There are no upper limits in regards to how large a business you can build. There are no limits to how much money you can earn. And with increased income, you are then able to become a blessing to others. And isn’t that what you really want to do? The poor you will have with you always. But you do not have to be one of them.

Set your eyes on God. His word tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you. Stand firm this Christmas season. Jesus is the reason for this season, and it is He who should be glorified.

Encourage yourself in the truth that God loved you so much that He sent His son, to live & to die for your sins; so that you are now forever reconciled to God. He loves you. And, we do too.

RIght where you are

This is going to be tough to write, tough to confront, and probably tough to complete. As sure as I’m sitting here typing, I know that I am going to be interrupted several times for several reasons because I am not alone. Not alone is a good place to be but it does challenge you to act in the middle of chaos. Well, not actual chaos because the other person or people are sure of what they are doing, and are sure that you are not doing anything important enough to be disturbed. Disturbed, I am, but that is probably because I consider what I am doing to be more important than what you are doing. Hmmm.. Interesting, to me. What ever you are in the middle of, like ending sentences with prepositions, you can be sure that God has equipped you to handle it, to be able to put order into the seeming chaos. He has given you exactly what you need to perform with excellence, the tasks that are before you this day. So do not feel special because of your interruptions. Handle what comes along, and you will increase your ability to handle even more.

“Right where you are” is exactly where God can touch you, enable you, prosper you. Now for some of you, well, remember Abraham? Yes, God did tell him to move away from his family, and other familiar places. And Jonah decided to go on vacation instead of go to where God would bless him. However, as soon as these men were exactly where God wanted them to be, blessings came. Are you right where God wants you to be? Probably. But pray. Ask Him about this. If you have peace about where you are, then don’t sweat the small stuff, the seeming chaos, the interruptions. Simply continue to do what God has you doing where you are and keep an eye out for your blessings. Here’s a clue. When God blesses you, He adds no sorrow to it. So when He gives you a car, He will either have it paid for in cash, or provide the money as needed for the monthly payments. Now the onus is on you to be a good steward of the car payment money, and not spend it on anything else. The better you manage what money you have, the greater possibility that increase will come from unexpected places.

Hang in there.
Someone told me that “showing up” is half the battle.

Maui President's Trip 2010

We just returned from the Hawaii President’s Trip. If Ardyss ever offers this again, you must go. The meetings were informative. The camaraderie was great. We got to meet and pray with some wonderful people from all across America and the world. This trip confirmed the name of our website, “Izzy’s Ardyss America and the World.”

This first post for 2010 finds us with over 250,000 in our downline. We are truly excited about what God is doing with this business opportunity. There are still liars, cheaters, and even a Jezebel or two out there taking people's money with no conscience. I do not know how they can sleep at night, but I do know that God is going to deal severely with those that cheat his children. We know that God placed this business in our hands so that we might contact people that we might otherwise have never met.
Izzy & I will be traveling about the country this year, speaking at training seminars where you will learn how to measure, how to order, and how to manage your business. As you know, growing your business is an everyday process. Absolutely everyone that you meet is a potential client or distributor. Find the need and fill it. We have a product and business for everyone. It is up to them to grow their own. It is up to you to train them.
If you are on our first or second levels, you will probably hear from us soon. If you are beyond these two levels, you should get your sponsor to help you grow your business. Between the two of you, you will know 100% more than any client you meet.

When it comes to making business decisions, prayer, study, and counsel need to take priority over emotions. If you find yourself being made to feel good about yourself, but the speaker is selling anything, check your feelings, thank the speaker, and head for the door. Flattery is the snare that will cause you to stop dead in your tracks, lower your guard, and be captured. Only truth, the truth that you know and apply, will truly set you free. Can you make money with Ardyss?

I wrote this in response to an e-mail we received from a potential New Distributor. As it covers many points that seem to come up, I thought that it should become part of our blog, and thereby, our history.

You can make money at anything you put your mind to. Isn't that true?

So you want to lose weight?
The Ardyss Abdomen shirt fits like a second skin, and helps you to lose inches right away, and of course, the more you use it, the weight loss can become permanent. Your best bet, though, will be to use the Ultra Body Cleanser for 14 days. You take an herbal pill in the morning and then a great tasting tea in the evening before bed. After 7 days you should notice a significant change in your BM's. Being the Texas-sized man that you are, you could probably do two tablets in the morning and the tea at night. After you have completed the 14 day Colon Cleanse, I would recommend the AM and PM products for weight loss. We had a friend of our son's use the AM/PM. He lost 60 pounds over 4 months, and all we had him do was to take the AM/PM and stop drinking those 44 ounce sodas. I think I will attach a before and after of him.
Can you really make money?
People, including us, are making a decent income from the sales of Ardyss products, and the sales of the people that they have recruited. Izzy and I founded the Ardyss America in 2002 and have grown to over 104,000 distributors in our downline. But, the best part about the business is the opportunity it gives us to lift people's spirits, increase their self-esteem, and usually praying that they have Jesus in their life.
How do I become a distributor?
As many of our readers already know, there are three ways to start your Ardyss Business.
1. You can become an Ardyss Independent Distributor by purchasing a membership for $30.00 and placing your first order for at least $100.00 at the wholesale price.
2. There is also an AutoShip option which we highly recommend. $100.00 or more of Consumable products, like the ArdyssLife Nutritional Products, is delivered to you every month on a day of your choosing. On the day of shipment, a charge is made to your credit or debit card for the wholesale price of these products. You can use them yourself, or sell them at retail and make your money back plus profit.
3. The PowerStart option. You buy a $300.00 PowerPack of products. More details by phone. Call Izzy.

As with any business, you get out of it, what you put into, with interest. There are seven ways to make money with Ardyss, but they all revolve around the purchasing of product from Ardyss International at the Wholesale level; either by yourself, or by those that you bring into the business.

The truth continues

After meeting with the Founders, Mr. & Mrs. Diaz de Leon, and showing them a mock-up of an English language website, we obtained their approval to take all the Spanish Materials, translate them into English, and start our own Independent Distributorship. They did not contribute any money towards our efforts to take Ardyss to the English-speaking market. Ardyss retail prices?

We regularly get the question regarding the suggested retail prices for Ardyss products. Ardyss sets suggested retail prices. There are some folks who try to undercut those, but then usually you don't get the personal service from the seller. If you check out our website, www.ardyssamerica.net, you will see that there is no place to buy on line. This was on purpose. We are not selling bras and girdles. We are selling reshaping treatments. And giving personal service is paramount for a good fit, and a great customer relationship. In this competitive society, anyone can sell just about anything for whatever price they desire. Ardyss America has always published and abided by the Suggested Retail Prices as set by Ardyss International. We are aware of some online sellers that have purchased legitimate and illegitimate (black market) garments and try to unload them on unsuspecting and uneducated buyers. We try to report each of these sites to Ardyss International as we find them. One of the keys to your success in pricing your garments per Ardyss International will be your personal service to your customers. And once you have delivered the garments to your customer, be sure to follow up with them about two weeks after their purchase. You will be pleasantly surprised at how well the products do their jobs, and how quickly your customers want to share their successes with you. Focus on your business, your customers, and your success. Anything else really doesn't matter. After all, this business is just a tool that God has given us to touch the lives of others. If you continue to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these other things will be added to you. And, you know, when God gives you something, He adds no sorrow to it. That is more than the population of many cities across this country. Again, we had a new monthly record for GQP with over 7,000,000. We thank all of you that helped to make this possible.

Sign a W-9? Where are my commissions?

Did your sponsor have you sign a W-9? Did you get a copy of your contract, W-9, and a receipt for your purchase?

You just signed up for a business opportunity. You just gave someone else all your information, including your social security number, credit card information, and personal data. You have just handed over your identity to someone you just met, and you don’t have any copies? What happened?

When emotions increase, intelligence decreases.

If your W-9 was not submitted to Ardyss International, you will not receive any checks from Ardyss. Any commissions you may have earned are passed to your upline, the person who signed you up.

From the Policies and Procedures manual, Section 11.4 - Voluntary Cancellation.
“A participant in this network marketing plan has a right to cancel at any time, regardless of reason. Cancellation must be submitted in writing to the Company at its principal business address. The written notice must include the Distributor’s signature, printed name, address, and Distributor I.D. Number.”

For those of you that are not on our first or second levels, get with the person that signed you up. They are your sponsor. Get them to train you. If you want to sign up directly under Izzy, but you have already signed up under someone else, Ardyss International requires that you must be inactive for a period of six months. After that, you can sign up under someone else, with your original name.

Is there a Monthly commitment?

In order for any business to grow, there is always some kind of monthly commitment. This is especially true of MultiLevel businesses including Ardyss. As Founders of Ardyss America, Izzy and I do not support nor discourage the PowerStart program.

Our interest is, and has alway been, the training and development of new Independent Distributors who obtain maximum product knowledge to obtain maximum self-respect and income. Money, as important as it is, has always played second place to encouraging and helping our people.

The PowerStart program requires a financial commitment. I have attached an Ardyss Corporate powerpoint that gives an explanation of PowerStart. If you are not willing to commit to growing your own business, then perhaps it would be best for you to simply sign up as a preferred customer. As a preferred customer you commit to nothing, well, not exactly nothing. You would still be expected to purchase something every six months, I believe it is.
I hope this helps you to make your decision.

What we usually do when we are trying to make a decision:
1. Pray. Ask God for His guidance.
2. Wait for an answer, a confirmation, for peace. While waiting, research as much as possible about the decision.
3. Upon receiving an answer, take action, quickly, definitively, and totally.

My sponsor won't call me back.

In response to an e-mail received asking about how to increase their business:

Thanks for sharing. I apologize for the delay in responding. I have not checked this e-mail address consistently. It appears that you have been through testing times, and without the test there can be no testimony. So, Praise God for this! Who is your senior partner, major stockholder, and supernatural provider?
Is there anything too difficult for Him? Smile, it confuses the devil and brings peace to your soul.

Regarding your business... Who is your sponsor? You should seek them out and ask them these same questions. They are directly responsible to train you in your Ardyss business. Next, who is their sponsor? Go up the line to your sponsor's sponsor, and as high as you need to go. Izzy and I directly train and assist our first two levels, which is a very large task in itself. Anyone beyond these two levels should be in direct contact with their sponsor for training and updates. I said all this to try to reinforce the importance of each Independent Distributor helping their personally sponsored people.

The best advice we have received which we continue to pass on, came from our upline leader, Ms. Maria Gaeta. "Be a product of your products," she said in Spanish. This applies to every sales person of every product. When people see that something different is happening in your life, they will naturally gravitate to it.

However, even before this, what does the Bible tell us to do regarding life? Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED TO YOU! And when God adds it to you, He adds NO sorrow to it. So, if you truly want change, Lift Jesus higher, and He will draw your customers to you.

I felt led to bring this post back to the top. There are lies being told that must be broken by speaking the truth. The following is the truth about how Ardyss got into the English-speaking market. Others have tried, but we persevered.

Before Izzy grabbed this opportunity of founding and establishing the English speaking market, there were a small handful that tried, failed, and left the company. In August 2002, Izzy began translating all the Ardyss materials from Spanish to English. With the help of her husband, Steve, many of the sales and training literature were produced for which Izzy and Steve received no remuneration. That's right. We did not get paid for all of the translations, but continued to produce them because we knew that one day there would be a breakthrough in the English speaking market, and we wanted to be there to see it happen. There were many times that we wanted to give up. We were not getting the English language support from Ardyss that could have helped this process along much sooner. But we didn't quit. We knew that the products were excellent; that they do what they are supposed to do. We knew that these products were capable of improving the health and the self-esteem of the users. We knew that there were people out there, like-minded people, that could capture the vision and grow their own business.
Ardyss America was founded by Izzy Martinez and Steve Martinez with the direct approval of Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Diaz de Leon, the founders of Ardyss International.
There are no other founders. Any story you may have heard that differs from this one, is, simply put, a lie.

Can a distributor have more recruits than their sponsor?

A new friend of ours called yesterday and asked that question. Ardyss International does not restrict the amount of recruits that any independent distributor may have. One of the reasons that Ardyss created the Multilevel system for their business model was to insure that any individual could do and earn as much or as little as possible. So, if you enroll and sponsor someone who then goes and sponsors 5, 10 or 50 people, more power to them, and to you. That should be an incentive for you to increase your recruiting efforts. Also, every month there are plenty of examples where the downline person earned more than the upline.
In the beginning, and in the end, this is your business. No one has the right to limit you without your permission. If ever you feel any uneasiness regarding your business, please send me an e-mail. Either Izzy or I will get you an answer. After all, the truth you know and apply will set you free.

The Truth About Ardyss English Market

Before Izzy grabbed this opportunity of founding and establishing the English speaking market, there were a small handful that tried, failed, and left the company. In August 2002, Izzy began translating all the Ardyss materials from Spanish to English. With the help of her husband, Steve, many of the sales and training literature were produced for which Izzy and Steve received no remuneration. That's right. We did not get paid for all of the translations, but continued to produce them because we knew that one day there would be a breakthrough in the English speaking market, and we wanted to be there to see it happen. There were many times that we wanted to give up. We were not getting the English language support from Ardyss that could have helped this process along much sooner. But we didn't quit. We knew that the products were excellent; that they do what they are supposed to do. We knew that these products were capable of improving the health and the self-esteem of the users. During this holiday season, I am reminded of the manger scene, the nativity scene with which we are all familiar.
No matter your race or religion, I am sure you have seen the beautiful tableau. Why were they in the barn? The story tells us that there was no room at the inn.
If you knew that a King were coming to your town, would you not have a room prepared for him? Of course you would.

Do you have a room (your heart) prepared for the soon-coming king?

This Christmas story also reminds me that Jesus was not treated with the respect He deserved but was rejected by those who did not know Him. Yet, He fulfilled His God-given destiny, regardless of how any person treated Him.
Does this give you some idea of how you may want to respond to the next person who rejects you? They simply do not know who you are. They do not recognize the kingship you represent. They do not know that their future could be remarkably better if only they heard what you had to say and acted upon it.
Now, do not beat yourself up over the times you know you should have listened to someone and didn’t. Repent, and go forward.

We had our first English language Ardyss International Awards Ceremony on April 19, 2008. It won’t be our last. Awards were given out for the many accomplishments for the months of January, February, and March 2008.

Alejandro and Elvia De Leon came in from Las Vegas and Ms. Maria Gaeta and her daughter, Claudia, came in from Los Angeles.

There must have been over 120 people in attendance.

Tony Martinez provided some upbeat tunes as the DJ for the meeting.

Ginger Martinez sang two songs, one in English, You Are Beautiful, and one in Spanish, Falsas Esperanzas, False Hopes. She was great.

Maria gave a motivational talk on how to conduct yourself in business,
and in life!

Alejandro gave us an update on the upcoming Bilingual sales materials that Ardyss will be producing, to be available May 1, 2008. This is major progress!

D’Lana came down from Chicago just to be at this meeting.

Thanks also to the folks from Dallas who drove down for the meeting. I hope you all got a taste of what has been happening in Houston, and a better understanding of how Ardyss thinks so highly of us. I know you will be doing an even better job of growing your businesses after this meeting.

Make Your Marketing Smarter, Not Harder

I've been asking successful independent professionals latelywhat it was they did that launched their success. What activity helped them the most to stop struggling to market themselves and start finding clients with more ease?

The diversity of their answers has been intriguing, but I've been struck by what they haven't said as well as what they have. So far, not a single person has told me they ultimately got more results from their marketing by working harder.

This may seem to be at odds with what we learn about marketing from books, classes, consultants, and coaches. Given the volume and variety of ideas these experts share with us, aren't they suggesting we need to do "more"? Or is it possible that the message to work harder is just our own interpretation? Perhaps what the experts are really advising is something different.
There is a certain threshold of marketing activity every professional needs to cross. You can't sit in your office com-municating with no one and expect clients to arrive at your door. Nor can you accomplish results with your marketing if you don't make time for it in your calendar. But once you are regularly taking action about marketing, the secret to success appears to be working smarter, not harder.

How do you tell the difference between working harder at marketing and working smarter? Here are some comparisons:

Harder: Place more cold calls to new prospects.
Smarter: Follow up regularly with warm calls to people with whom you already have a connection.

Harder: Launch a direct mail campaign, sending sales letters to a prospect list you purchased or compiled from public sources.
Smarter: Send personal letters or email to people whose problems and goals you have some knowledge of.
Harder: Attend more networking events.
Smarter: Attend only those events frequented by people in your target market or by likely referral partners.
Harder: Ask everyone you come in contact with to refer you business.
Smarter: Spend time building relationships with key people who are likely to come in contact with your ideal clients.
Harder: Book every speaking engagement you can get.
Smarter: Accept speaking engagements only when the topic draws on the core of your expertise and the audience is the right profile for your services.
Harder: Write a new article for every publication you would like to have publish your work.
Smarter: Seek out publications that accept previously-printed articles and submit the same ones to multiple venues.

What you may notice about these examples is that the "work harder" path in some ways can be easier than the "work smarter" one. For example, you don't have to think very much to make more cold calls. You can simply sit down with a list you got from anywhere, smile, and dial. But to follow up regularly with people you already know, you probably need to have a system in place to keep track of when you last conversed and what you talked about.

Similarly, to attend more networking events, without too much thought you can probably see what's listed in the paper or arrives in your mailbox, register, and show up. But to attend only events relevant to your target market, you need to craft a clear definition of who that market is and do some homework to seek out events where those people gather.

Is there any point, though, in doing more just because it's easier, if in fact what you are doing is considerably lesslikely to produce results?

Take a lesson from the successful professionals who assert that simply working harder isn't the whole answer. However you are currently marketing your business -- making calls, attending events, etc. -- ask yourself how you can improve those strategies by applying more focus and direction instead of just more time and effort. To make your marketing more successful, take off your running shoes and put your thinking cap on.

Developing a 21st Century Mind

It is difficult to imagine a more demanding or more exciting time in human history than the 20th Century. Particularly during the couple of decades, we have been faced with unprecedented rates of change that require massive adaptation. In every field of endeavor — business and industry, government and education, science, human services, athletics and art — the challenge of dramatic and rapid change has confronted us. The 21st Century promises to continue and even step up that trend.

Some of the challenges we face as we move toward the year 2000 and beyond include an increasingly high rate of technological innovation, the need to balance economic and environmental concerns, the information explosion, quickly shifting employment and career trends, a highly competitive global marketplace, a widening gap between society's "haves" and "have-nots," and the ever-present task of inventing a future that will foster the health and well-being of us all.

To my mind, one of the most critical concepts of our time is "interdependence.” Unless we, as a species and as individuals, can develop and demonstrate concern for more than just families and our own companies, nations, and ourselves communities we will be falling far short of achieving our potential for prosperity, peace and happiness.

We can't just shrug off the massive problems of our times, thinking that "technology" will take care of them. Technology alone can't get us to and through the 21st Century in a way that benefits the delicate, interdependent web of life our planet supports. It is people working together who must create a desirable future for ourselves and for future generations.

But what sort of people? What kind of mind will it take to create a peaceful, prosperous and environmentally healthy 21st Century? Well, to begin with, a mind that is receptive to change and able to figure out how to do more with less. The model for this mind already exists, and it can be found, to the surprise of some environmentalists, in the corporate world.

Many of the companies we work with have had to initiate massive cultural and organizational changes in order to stay in business. To do this, they have had to develop new ways of thinking. With our help, they have moved from Newtonian to Whiteheadian leadership. They have moved from being staffed by people who simply do what they're told to people who actively participate in decisions that affect them and their organization. They have moved from seeing employees as problems to seeing them as problem solvers. And they have moved from closed-door strategic planning to open vision-building sessions and free-flowing information. As a result, their productivity has increased, even when significant downsizing has been necessary.

It is my strong belief that we can and must transfer these essential thinking skills to all segments of our culture, all aspects of human society. We have already begun to do so, about 70 percent of all workers, In the 1950s, made their living through some form of manual labor. After basic skills had been mastered, these jobs required little or no creative thinking. Only the remaining 30 percent of the work force had to exercise thinking skills in order to earn their daily bread; therefore, only this 30 percent minority had to be educated to be able to think for themselves. Is it any wonder that we became complacent, under-utilized and vulnerable to all sorts of troubles?

These days, it's a different story. The numbers are now reversed, and about 70 percent of today's jobs require the continued use of the mind on a regular basis. Only about 30 percent use primarily physical skills, and that number is dropping every day, right along with the wages these jobs pay.

But 70 percent is not nearly enough. And, like our corporate clients, many of those counted in that figure need to learn new ways to use their thinking skills. The dramatically changing conditions of the 21st Century and the serious nature of many of our environmental problems demand that all of us every last one become creative, innovative, expansive thinkers. At the same time, we need to realize that we are, indeed, interdependent, and we need to celebrate the tremendous power we have when we band together to work toward a worthwhile common goal. Like those corporations, we must now get nothing less than full value from every member of human society and encourage each member to participate to the fullest.

The Pacific Institute's education is an ideal vehicle for assisting this global transformation to a 21st Century mind. It helps people to become what noted psychologist Abraham Maslow termed "self-actualizing." To be self-actualizing means that we accept ourselves and others, we have a strong focus on solving problems outside the self, and we have deep feelings of sympathy and affection for humankind. It also means that we have strong ethics, definite moral standards, and independent stability in the face of hard knocks.

People who self-actualize are the kinds of people who will be at home in the 21st Century. In Maslow's words, "Self-actualizing people are, without a single exception, involved in a cause outside of themselves. They are devoted, working at something precious to them — a calling, a vocation.... They are working at something fate has called them to somehow, and which they love, so that the joy/work dichotomy in them disappears."

When we are self-actualizing, we are most likely to experience the level of happiness that Father Spitzer of Seattle University calls "H-4."

At level H-1 we see happiness as a "feel-good" thing. All we want is to feel good, avoid feeling bad, and that's it. We don't give a hoot how anyone else is feeling.

At level H-2, we do a lot of work on ourselves, because we want to be better than the next guy. We have plenty of self-discipline, but it's all ego-driven, and we're not really happy, except when someone's telling us how great we are.

At level H-3, we're starting to make the best kind of happiness happen. That's because what we want most is to help other people, and it feels great when we do. We forget about ourselves. More than anything else, we care about others — our team, our community, the whole darn planet, and we want to be a contributing part of all of it.

At level H-4, we can see beyond the good of the team or the group to the ultimate good. We start to understand what unconditional love is all about, and we're always thinking about what we can learn and how we can give. At level H-4, we can see the highest good in everything, and we just naturally respond to it with the best, most loving part of ourselves.

That's the goal we need to move toward as we approach the 21st Century. And that's also why I'm more convinced than ever that our education is a vital part of the process. Our graduates report that they feel a much greater sense of personal accountability, not only for the quality of their own lives, but also for the quality of life around them. They are actively concerned about what's happening in their company, their family, their community, their nation and their planet, and they want to take effective action to improve things. They have what Maslow called an "older sibling" attitude toward those who may be less fortunate: They gladly take time to share their knowledge, and they enjoy mentoring others to success. They want to operate at levels H-3 or H-4. And they are possibility thinkers — exactly what the 21st Century needs. This is no time to think in small, limited terms about our own lives and the roles that we can play in the future. This is a time for an entirely new vision of "human nature" — one that is more complete, more caring, more creative and more effective than ever before.

Whip Those Fears And Succeed

Before the magic in Think and Grow Rich will work, you'll need to overcome the three enemies of success: Indecision, Doubt and Fear. Where even one of these is found, the others are close at hand. Your creative imagination cannot function with these enemies in your life.
According to Napoleon Hill, “Indecision is the seedling of fear! Indecision crystallizes into doubt, the two blend and become fear!” “The "blending" process often is slow. This is one reason why these three enemies are so dangerous. They germinate and grow without their presence being observed.”
The chapter on fear was added to Think and Grow Rich for the purpose of calling attention to the six basic fears people have. According to Hill, “Before we can master an enemy, we must know its name, its habits, and its place of abode.” The chapter on fear helps you analyze your life to identify whether any of these fears are holding you back.
The six basic fears Hill spoke of are Poverty, Criticism, Ill Health, Loss of Love of Someone, Old Age, and Death. Everyone experiences some combination of these fears at one time or another in their life. Although we may not even be aware we are experiencing them. “Do not be deceived by the habits of these subtle enemies. Sometimes they remain hidden in the subconscious mind, where they are difficult to locate, and still more difficult to eliminate.”
“Few people realize that they are bound, handicapped, whipped spiritually and physically through some form of fear. So subtle and deeply seated is the emotion of fear that one may go through life burdened with it, never recognizing its presence. Only a courageous analysis will disclose the presence of this universal enemy.”
Hill says that the fear of poverty is the most destructive of the six basic fears. There is good reason for this. “Nothing brings man so much suffering and humility as POVERTY! Only those who have experienced poverty understand the full meaning of this.”
The fear of poverty “paralyzes the faculty of reason, destroys the faculty of imagination, kills off self-reliance, undermines enthusiasm, discourages initiative, leads to uncertainty of purpose, encourages procrastination, wipes out enthusiasm and makes self-control an impossibility. It takes the charm from one's personality, destroys the possibility of accurate thinking, diverts concentration of effort, it masters persistence, turns the will-power into nothingness, destroys ambition, beclouds the memory and invites failure in every conceivable form; it kills love and assassinates the finer emotions of the heart, discourages friendship and invites disaster in a hundred forms, leads to sleeplessness, misery and un-happiness—and all this despite the obvious truth that we live in a world of over-abundance of everything the heart could desire, with nothing standing between us and our desires, excepting lack of a definite purpose.”
“If it is true that all thought has a tendency to clothe itself in its physical equivalent (and this is true, beyond any reasonable room for doubt), it is equally true that thought impulses of fear and poverty cannot be translated into terms of courage and financial gain.”
The good news is that all fear is nothing more than a state of mind, and you can choose to change your mind. It takes practice and willpower, but it can be done. And it must be done before you can achieve anything you desire to do.
“There can be no compromise between POVERTY and RICHES! The two roads that lead to poverty and riches travel in opposite directions. If you want riches, you must refuse to accept any circumstance that leads toward poverty.” That means you must not accept poverty in either your mind or your life.
You must also learn to recognize the other fears in your life as well. Fear of criticism can be just as damaging as fear of poverty. It produces most of the same negative effects in your life.
Another state of mind that must be controlled is worry. It is based on fear. “It works slowly, but persistently. It is insidious and subtle. Step by step it "digs itself in" until it paralyzes one's reasoning faculty, destroys self-confidence and initiative. Worry is a form of sustained fear caused by indecision therefore it is a state of mind which can be controlled.”
“An unsettled mind is helpless. Indecision makes an unsettled mind. Most individuals lack the willpower to reach decisions promptly, and to stand by them after they have been made, even during normal business conditions.” Life will throw you all kinds of challenges as you work towards achieving your Definite Purpose. You will have to learn to make decisions even when those around you cannot. Most people can't make decisions so you must not let yourself be influenced by “mass indecision.”
Once you reach a decision do not worry about the conditions surrounding it. Follow a definite line of action until you achieve your goal, or until you can clearly see that the decision should be changed.
“Decision can also prevent one's acceptance of undesired circumstances. The si fears become translated into a state of worry, through indecision. Relieve yourself, forever of the fear of death, by reaching a decision to accept death as an inescapable event. Whip the fear of poverty by reaching a decision to get along with whatever wealth you can accumulate without worry. Put your foot upon the neck of the fear of criticism by reaching a decision not to worry about what other people think, do, or say. Eliminate the fear of old age by reaching a decision to accept it, not as a handicap, but as a great blessing which carries with it wisdom, self-control, and understanding not known to youth.”
Once you learn to control your worries and fears, there is still one more evil that you must learn to master. On top of the Six Basic Fears, this too can block your path to success. “This affliction cannot properly be classed as a fear. It is more deeply seated and more often fatal that all the six fears. For want of a better name, let us call this evil susceptibility to negative influences. People who accumulate great riches always protect themselves against this evil! The poverty stricken never do! Those who succeed in any calling must prepare their minds to resist the evil.”
Fortunately you already have within you the power to fight this evil, regardless of whether the negative influences are of your own making, or whether they are the result of negative people around you. It's called willpower. You have the power to build “a wall of immunity against negative influences in your own mind.”
Just realize “that negative influences often work on you through your subconscious mind, therefore they are difficult to detect.” Monitor your feelings and when you find yourself feeling down or depressed for no apparent reason, just know that your subconscious mind is the cause. Start visualizing your goals as already achieved and these positive thoughts will replace the negative programming that's causing you to feel the way you do.
You also need to closely guard against negative influences of others. You wouldn't let someone enter your house with a trashcan and dump it in the middle of the floor would you? So don't let anyone do the same thing to your mind either. Don't let people fill your mind with mental garbage. If you have negative people in your life, then you may need to look at either cutting them out of your life, or at least stopping them when they're being negative.
“Mind control is the result of self-discipline and habit. You either control your mind or it controls you. There is no halfway compromise. The most practical of all methods for controlling the mind is the habit of keeping it busy with a definite purpose, backed by a definite plan. Study the record of any man who achieves noteworthy success, and you will observe that he has control over his own mind, moreover, that he exercises that control and directs it toward the attainment of definite objectives. Without this control, success is not possible.”
You can choose to feed your mind whatever thoughts you want. “With this privilege goes basic also the responsibility of using it constructively. You are the master of your own earthly destiny just as surely as you have the power to control your own thoughts. You may influence, direct, and eventually control your own environment, making your life what you want it to be—or, you may neglect to exercise the privilege which is yours, to make your life to order, thus casting yourself upon the broad sea of "Circumstance'' where you will be tossed hither and yon, like a ship on the waves of the ocean.”
Have you have ever wondered why some people appear to be so “lucky” while other people who have equal or even greater ability, training, experience, and knowledge always experience misfortune? Those “lucky” people have learned how to control their minds to keep negative influences of other people tightly sealed out. They choose what thoughts they let in. They choose only to let in positive influences.
By following the exercises in the Fear chapter in Think and Grow Rich, you are preparing your mind in the same way as a gardener prepares the fertile soil in the spring. The starting point to growing wealth in your life is to cultivate a burning desire as you were instructed in the chapter on Desire. Eliminating fear prepares your mind so you can develop that burning desire. And once you eliminate fear and you have that burning desire, then applying all the other principles in the book will help you achieve your Definite Purpose.

Napoleon Hill told a story in Think and Grow Rich about a great warrior who sailed with his army to their enemy’s country and then ordered the ships burned so the men would have no way of retreating.

“Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat. Only by so doing can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as a BURNING DESIRE TO WIN, essential to success.”

The warrior’s army won the battle even though they were greatly outnumbered. Why? Because the men had a burning desire to live and return home. Winning was the only way to do that. Without a burning desire you will most likely quit when things don’t work out as planned or when problems arise. Or you’ll quit when friends or family try to convince you that your goals are crazy or wrong, or when they tell you it’s a waste of time to chase dreams. You’ll become failure focused instead of success focused. With a burning desire you will not accept failure as an option.

In fact, without burning desire to help you overcome procrastination, you may never even get started. Burning desire is what will help you break out of your comfort zone and help you put your plans into action in the first place. Too many of us are living what we consider a comfortable existence. We aren’t totally happy but we have a decent job, a nice enough house, a fairly good family life, and at least some of the material things we want. Life is fairly good, but you still have that nagging voice in the back of your mind that says your were created for more. And you were.

Sometimes it takes an event that collapses our comfortable existence before we develop that burning desire. “The turning point in the lives of those who succeed, usually comes at the moment of some crisis, through which they are introduced to their ‘other selves.’”
My “turning point” came when I was “downsized” from my job. That’s what helped me to develop my burning desire to never work for anyone else again. I realized that trusting your financial future to anyone is a recipe for future financial misery.

A wise man or woman will develop burning desire BEFORE crisis arrives. And yes you can develop burning desire. It’s a little harder to do if you are NOT faced with a crisis in your life. But Think and Grow Rich does have the secrets for developing desire. You’ll need to study and practice these secrets and learn from others who have succeeded in using them.

Having a burning desire will not isolate you from problems, but it will help you overcome them. It will help you clarify your thoughts and dreams and turn them into reality. “If the thing you wish to do is right, and you believe in it, go ahead and do it! 10 Ways to get your marketing unstuck

Here are some tips we have found helpful.

Have you ever found yourself knowing exactly what you need to do about marketing your business... and then not doing it? You are not alone. Many self-employed professionals find that the hardest part of marketing isn't figuring out what to do. What's hard is actually doing it.

Marketing yourself can be a confronting process. Making phone calls to strangers, writing marketing letters, and talking about yourself and your accomplishments can bring up fear of rejection, harsh commentary from your inner critic, feelings of incompetence, and the discomfort of performing unfamiliar activities. If you let them, these inner saboteurs can stop you dead in your tracks.

The good news is that you don't have to completely eliminate these internal roadblocks in order to move forward in marketing. It is possible to feel afraid or uncomfortable and still take useful action despite the presence of these feelings.

Here are ten ways to quickly break through internal barriers and get your marketing unstuck.
1. Re-create your vision. When you're feeling blocked from moving forward, remember why you wanted to go there in the first place. What was your original vision of the business you are trying to build? Who will your work benefit? What fulfillment or satisfaction will it provide you? Write down your vision of a successful business, or if you've written it down before, pull it out and re-read it. Allow your own words to re-inspire you to do the necessary hard work.

2. Design a reward. Sometimes your vision may seem a bit too far off, and you need some more immediate gratification. Choosing to reward yourself for a job well done can provide you with a positive near-term benefit for effort that might not pay off for a while. Promise yourself simple rewards for completing difficult marketing chores like making follow-up calls or writing web site copy. The prospect of a special dinner, a movie with your significant other, or a new gadget for your favorite hobby can help you to push past the blocks and get things done. Rewards don't even have to cost money. Sometimes the promise of a bubble bath, walk in the park, or an hour reading a good book is all the incentive you need to take on a tough marketing challenge.
3. Tame the inner critic. Often when you're feeling stuck, what's going on in your head is a conversation with your inner critic, who seems to have a lot to say about sales and marketing. It's difficult to work on promoting yourself when you are hearing a constant stream of comments like: "You're not good enough," "They won't like you," or "Who do you think you are?" It can help to remember that the inner critic often says things that simply aren't true. One way to counter this negative dialogue is to respond with the objective truth. For example: "Clients tell me I'm good at what I do," "Many people say they like me quite a bit," or "I'm a competent professional, thank you very much." When you answer confidently with statements of fact, messages from the inner critic often begin to lose their power.
4. Face your fear. One of the most common obstacles to being successful at marketing is fear. Marketing activities may evoke fears of rejection, disapproval, embarrassment, and a host of other catastrophes. Instead of pretending the fear isn't there, or attempting to ignore it, you May find it more effective to confront the fear directly. Try to identify exactly what you are afraid of. What do you fear will happen if you make that call or go to that meeting? If you can identify the specific fear that is blocking you, it may be possible to soothe it by providing reassuring information or positive experience. For example, fear of rejection can often be lessened by setting up practice selling sessions where a role-playing partner responds with "yes" to every suggestion you make.
5. Get a pep talk. When you become discouraged, don't be afraid to ask for outside help to cheer up and start feeling positive again. Ask a friend, colleague, networking group member, or your coach to give you some words of encouragement. Sometimes all you need to hear is: "It was tough for me in the beginning too... Eventually my efforts paid off... You're doing all the right things... I know you can do it!"
6. Complain and clear. Feeling frustrated and negative can sometimes immobilize you. One method of clearing negative thoughts is to voice what you are experiencing to a caring person. Spend a full five minutes complaining about everything that's going wrong with your marketing, making sure to say exactly how it makes you feel. Then ask your listener to reflect your feelings back to you. Knowing that someone else hears and understands you may be all you need to let go of a negative attitude and get back to work.
7. Read your fan mail. In the regular course of serving your clients, you've probably received thank-you notes, grateful voice mail messages, and other evidence that you're doing a good job. Make a habit of saving these in a "fan mail" folder, and when you are feeling low, revisit all the nice things people have said about you. Remembering what a good job you do when you are working can encourage you to do the necessary marketing to get more work.
8. Quit, then start fresh. There may be days when you feel discouraged enough to just throw in the towel. Maybe you should do it. The act of quitting can be very cathartic. Proclaim: "I quit!" Perhaps even write yourself a resignation letter. Then take off the rest of the day, and don't even think about work. It's a good bet that after you have a chance to blow off some steam, you'll be ready to come back the following day re-energized.
9. Change the scene. Marketing can feel difficult and lonely when you're always slaving away by yourself in your home office. Try carrying out some of your challenging marketing tasks from a different location or with some company. Make cold calls from the patio, write a marketing letter in a busy coffee shop, or take turns with a colleague helping each other set up a good contact management system. Seeing a different view or enjoying companionship while you work may help you to complete tasks you have been avoiding.
10. Act as if. Whenever you feel incompetent about some area of marketing, you may be able to tackle those activities anyway if you simply try to act as if you were competent. Try playing the role of someone you admire. For example, what if you were Lauren Bacall? How would she make a follow-up call? Or how about if you were Martin Luther King? How would he introduce himself in front of a group? A short time pretending to be someone you think of as confident and capable can make those qualities rub off on you.

The next time your marketing feels stuck, try one of these methods to help you get back into action quickly. Marketing tasks are really only as hard as you think they are, so if you can find an easy way out, why not take it?
